Passerby
The passerby project started on June 4, 2014. June 4 is my birthday, and I wanted to create something meaningful for others. I opened my studio doors with the simple intention of making portraits of strangers passing by. Each portrait was captured on an 8x10 camera, exposed directly to silver gelatin paper—usually requiring just a single click and about two minutes of a stranger's time. These unique pieces were gifted entirely free to the participants.
What began as a personal gesture is now an ongoing, evolving cultural study.
